Fish Oil Benefits: Reduce Tumor Size

A new study shows omega-3 fatty acids which are found in fish oil, reduces the size of tumors in mice and made a chemotherapy drug more potent while limiting its ill-effects.These findings where published in publisher BioMed Central’s peer-reviewed Cell Division journal.

The study examined how DHA (docosahexanoic acid), a omega 3 fatty acid affected solid tumors growing in mice and how it interacted with the chemotherapy drug, cisplatin. The study examined at the molecular level how DHA reduces the accumulation of white blood cells, inflammation and a harmful condition noted by decreased antioxidant levels; all of which have been linked to tumor growth.

The study also showed that the omega-3 fatty acid also reduced the damage to kidney tissue which is usually caused by the chemotherapy drug.

We will continue to keep you up to date with future discoveries and studies that fish oil benefits continue to prove effective.
